It’s January 26th 2015 and time to leave the Philippines for us (Emelyn and me) for about a month (next stops are Hong Kong, Macau, Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia). Our flight is scheduled at 06:00 in the morning from Cebu to Hong Kong. This means for us wake up at 03:45. How early is this. Luckily we stayed in the Island Stay Hotel in Cebu/Mactan/Lapu Lapu so by Taxi it’s only about a 5 min drive. Our flight was as always a Cebu Pacific Air Promo flight (5’200 PHP for 2 persons incl. 2x 20kg of baggage allowance but excl. the international Philippine Terminal Taxes which are very expensive in Cebu with PHP 750 per person!). Additional for the most Philippinos (not for the international tourists) there is a Philippine travel tax (about PHP 1’620). Crazy how this government is punishing their own people which are travelling abroad for a holiday or even for work if you are considering their low monthly salaries.

It’s already 05:00 in the morning, next stop the Philippine Immigration. Not a problem for the most tourists, if you haven’t to show an overstay, so also for me. A bigger problem was it for my girlfriend Emelyn. She just had a new passport and did not bring her working contract and ID, that she is working as a nurse in a hospital. It was like in a interrogation at the court. (Where are you going? What is your work? Why didn’t you bring this document? I don’t believe what you said and and and). Luckily I printed all our flights incl. flights back to the Philippines and a health insurance copy for her as another proof that she will return back. There were only 2 counters open and we blocked it for about 15min. Crazy world. Finally the grumpy officier let us pass. Weird experiences for a frequent traveller and also sad to see what kind of obstacles some people of the world have to face to leave their country – just for travelling.

The flight wasn’t fully booked and we had the chance to occupy a whole row for us and to sleep. On time and 2.5hours later we landed in Hong Kong. This time it wasn’t any hassle at the Immigration, not even 1 minute each person. As a collector of stamps in my passport I was disappointed this time, they don’t give any stamps anymore, it was more like a little tiny flyer with your arrival date and allowed period to stay. Too sad.

Hong Kong ist not famous for cheap prices but at least we got a cheap breakfast at Mc Donalds at the airport before we headed to our booked hotel in Hong Kong. The “KK Hotel” has a great location for it’s price next to Tsim Sha Tsui Subway station and next to Kowloon Park and about a 10-15min walk to the avenue of stars. But the rooms were small like the most in a good and “cheap” price range :)

Because the room was still occupied we just left our luggage at the reception and went to the famous fake market in Hong Kong Mong Kok, which was just 3 subway stops away from our hotel. We just bought some clothes and that was it. Don’t forget to bargain and if you are the first costumer of a seller, you have a good and higher chance to reach a lower price. In many places in Asia, the first sell for the seller is the most important one for the further business of the day.

In the afternoon we went back to our hotel to check in and left again to the ferry terminal in Kowloon to travel to Macau. The ferry terminal was about a 15min walk from our hotel only. Very convenient. Return tickets at the cheapest travel class with Turbojet (same day, no promo) cost us about HKD 320 per person. The ride is about an hour to Macau and the ferries are leaving about every half an hour. Just make sure that you are informed that the last ferry in Kowloon arrives around midnight from Macau. If you wanna travel back later you will arrive on Hong Kong Island close to MRT Sheung Wan Station.

The immigration in Hong Kong is just at the pier before boarding and the same in Macau. Very quick and no problems to leave or enter the country. Arrived in Macau you will find just next to the ferry station a lot of free hotel and casino shuttles (going there and back). Enjoy your stay in Macau. We just went to Venetian Macau and Wynn Casino. Nice atmosphare, shows and free drinks. The casinos are mostly filled with chinese people and a handful of other tourists.

After a evening with many impressions AND LIGHTS :) in Macau we took the ferry back to Hong Kong. The next day we went up early to visit the Disneyland. Recommendation: If you wanna buy discounted and cheaper Tickets for Disneyland Hong Kong buy it at the “China Travel Service” counter when you arrive at the airport (on the landside, not airside). You get a discount between 10-15%! The counter is located roughly between the Starbucks Coffee and Mc Donalds. Standardprice for a day pass for an adult person was HKD 499 at the entrance. The Disneyland has its own MRT station named Disneyland Resort. At easiest to reach from MRT Central station in about 40-45min for about 26 HKD. If possible buy an octopus card (pre paid top up card) at the airport. It’s a convenient possibility to pay the public transportation and also in many shops like 7/11 or Mc Donalds. No coins are needed anymore.

After a funny but also exhausting day we came back home late to our hotel. Before we left the next day in the afternoon towards Bangkok we visited the famous Avenue of Stars.
