Another holiday, another journey but again the Philippines as our holiday destination. The itinerary with Qatar Airways this time a little bit more complicated. Departure from  Zurich via Doha and Seoul to Cebu and back via Hong Kong and Doha. With most of this airlines nowadays you get a 30 Kilogramm allowance for your luggage so we almost reached this weight with our passalubong (presents) for Emelyn’s family.

I flew for the first time through the new Doha Hamad International Airport and they really improved it compared to the old Doha airport. Clean and free water and wifi. Even the duty free is quite cheap. If you have a long layover there are (expensive) hotels inside the transfer area.

Before boarding our last flight from Seoul Incheon Airport to Cebu we used the free complimentary showers (even for economy passengers). So nice and free of charge (just show them at the reception your boarding passes). Make sure you have enough time (queue was around 20-30 Min). Hours of Operation : 07:00~22:00. The showers are located in the transfer service complex (near Korean Air on the 4th floor).

After a journey over almost 24 hours we arrived with a little delay around midnight at Cebu Mactan International  Airport. Luckily Emelyn and I could skip the line at the immigration and used the for Phillippinos. The immigration officier even was that kind and gave me the Balikbayan visa on arrival without asking! Free of charge. What a nice surprise. I can stay for one year in the Philippines! Unfortunately my holiday is only about 2.5 weeks. After collecting our luggage we headed to our hotel (Ace Penzionne) in Mactan as always which is located only a 5 Min drive from the airport.

The next day we celebrated Philippine famous Thanksgiving Fiesta with Emelyn’s family and neighbours with a delicious Lechon.

After a couple of days in Cebu we flew with Cebu Pacific to Dumaguete. The flight is only about 40 Minutes and promo rate for one way/person is about 1000 PHP (excl. checked luggage). We planned to travel to Siquijor but because we weren’t sure that the flight will be on time and that we are ale to catch the last ferry between 4 and 5 pm to Siquijor we stayed one night in Dumaguete at U-Pension Hotel. A basic, clean and cheap hotel just a stone’s throw away (5 Min walk to the Port of Dumaguete). A Tricycle from the airport to the city is about 120 PHP (cheap, walk outside the airport).

In Dumaguete city itself isn’t a lot to see but it’s possible to do day trips to Casaroro Falls or Twin Lakes of Balinsasayao & Danao. Unfortunately we did not have enough time to visit them for this time. We enjoyed dinner at Moon Café Silliman with great Mexican food and another day. There is also a Family KTV Karaoke next door, unfortunately fully booked when we arrived.

Different kind of companies offering ferries from Dumaguete to Siquijor Island. On the way to the island we went by Ocean Jet (210 PHP one way and a little extra for a checked luggage) and on the way back we booked Aleson for only about 100 PHP at the Pier in Siquijor (You will find the schedule of this ferries on the pictures later in the blog). The ferry ride is about an hour. Be prepared for unexpected cancellations due bad weather conditions! So plan a buffer in your travel itinerary if you have an onward flight.

If you are on Siquijor don’t be afraid to find transportation. A lot of Tricycle’s are waiting to serve you. In general there are fixed rates (150 PHP to San Juan) on the island but you can bargain. If you like the driver you can ask him if he is available for a land or mountain tour and get his number. Prices for the tours are roughly 1000 PHP for a day and depends if its only a land or also a mountain tour. We did the land tour including waterfalls.

The location from our hotel (White Villas Resort) was in San Juan (Tubod beach). Some but not that many restaurants were in a short walking distance. The Tubod beach and sunset is lovely, unfortunately they were constructing a swimming pool and the beach wasn’t really swimmable during our stay end of November. But we enjoyed extended walks at the beach or one day we did the tricycle tour (land tour with waterfalls from the mountain tour). Also not far from San Juan (5 Min trycicle ride and 10 Min walk from the street) to find is Paliton beach. The little famous beach which you can enjoy almost for yourself.

From here started our day tour (Rate for each day tours depends between 700-1500 PHP – city, beach or mountain tour) with stops at Capilay Spring Park (free), Lugnason Falls (tip for the boys and donation), Old Enchanted Balete Tree for the famous fish spa (free with donation), St Isidore de Labrador Church (free with donation), Salagdoong Beach (entrance fee is 75PHP / person and about 20PHP for the parking fee). The driver told us that there isn’t any water at Lugnason Falls but we tried it anyway ant it was beautiful. So even if the driver says there isn’t any or low water..try to get there (maybe during the summer month there isn’t any water). In the worst case you may lose only 2o Min going there and back from the main street. During the tour we did not visit the Cantabon Cave.

In San Juan you find a couple of restaurants in walking distance. Not really many. One evening we ate at Treasure Islands one of their famous pizzas which were so delicious. Try it :-)
