Welcome to Kanazawa! It’s just about a 2.5 hours journey by a thunerbird limited express train from Takayama (covered by Japan Rail Pass). Kanazawa offers the follwing main attractions: Omi-cho Market, Kenroku-en Garden, Kanazawa Castle Park, Higashi Chaya district (Geisha district) or also the Oyama Jinja Shrine.

I spent the first 2 days walking arround in Kanazwa and visited Omi-cho Market, Kenroku-en Garden, Kanazawa Castle Park, the Higashi Chaya District (Geisha district) and also the Oyama Jinja Shrine. My favourites have been the famous Keroku-en Garden and Omi-cho Market (SUSHI!).

As I day trip from Kanazawa I went by train to Kagaonsen (around 25min) followed by bus (30min) to Yamanka Onsen. You can walk through the small village (Yuge Kaido Street) and return at the end at the famous and beautiful Kakusenkei Sightseeing road along the Uma-Araigawa River (Kakusenkei Gorge). The best things you see during the walk are Korogi-bashi Brigde, Ayatori-hashi Bridge, Kurotani-bashi Bridge or the Fudotaki Waterfall, Sakura Cherry Blossom Park and Higashi-yama Shrine.

Unfortunately this was already my last day in Kanazawa. I housed at the Hostel Pongyi which is one of the best hostels i have ever been so far. „Yu’s“ (staff member) hospitality and kindness was great. The hostel was like a family (check here the review about Hostel Pongyi Kanazawa).

As an evening activity we tried to fold an Origami, celebrated a Traditional Tea Ceremony or writing Calligraphy (for myself it was a trying) :).
